John, aka “Not Johnny,” is a rising presence in the local music scene whose journey proves it’s never too late to pursue your passion. Although he didn’t begin playing guitar until the age of 30, John quickly developed a love for music while performing acoustic favorites around campfires and gatherings.

In 2020, he took the next step by assembling a talented group of experienced musicians to form the rock band Alter-Ego. Following a few changes and a rebranding, Not Johnny was officially born.

Today, Not Johnny continues to build a strong following with energetic performances, crowd-pleasing music, and a genuine passion for entertaining audiences throughout the Tri-State area.

Duane, aka “Warden Clyffe,” brings decades of musical and performance experience to Not Johnny. His background in music and theater began early through school, church, and community productions, including performances at prestigious venues such as Radio City Music Hall, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the U.S. Air Force Academy Chapel during the 1970s.

In college, Duane performed with a string ensemble before joining the band 180 Degrees as a rhythm and bass player. Over the years, he has performed and recorded with several groups, including the Michael Kelly Band, the Contemporary Christian rock group Mountain Top, the heavy metal band Film at 11, and the Hank Jr. tribute band Long Riders.

While serving in the U.S. Navy during Desert Storm, Duane played bass and vocals with the group Barsinister aboard the USS Monterey, performing throughout 24 Mediterranean locations during the Rock the Reds World Tour. He later joined the band Why Not Mike in Virginia, performing throughout the Washington, D.C. area before relocating to Kentucky and becoming part of Not Johnny.

Today, Duane’s powerful vocals, musicianship, and extensive stage experience continue to make him an integral part of the band’s dynamic live performances.

A veteran of the music scene, Chris, aka “The Snake,” has been surrounded by music his entire life. His father, Darrell — also a bass player — played a major role in shaping Chris’ early musical development. Much of his foundation as a musician came from watching his father’s band rehearse and perform during his childhood. When his father eventually retired from music, he passed down his bass amplifier to Chris, inspiring him to continue the musical journey.

Originally from Xenia, Ohio, Chris relocated to Northern Kentucky in 2011 to be with his wife, Jenny. Over the years, he has drawn inspiration from legendary bassists including Geddy Lee, Chris Squire, and James Jamerson, whose influence helped shape his distinctive playing style.

Known for his passion, stage presence, and dedication to live performance, Chris is committed to delivering high-energy shows and creating an unforgettable experience for every audience.

Chris loves performing and putting on the best show possible.

Originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee, Greg developed a passion for music at an early age, inspired by the twangy guitar sounds of Duane Eddy’s “Rebel Rouser” spinning on his father’s turntable. Just two years after receiving his first Stratocaster, Greg was already performing original blues and southern rock in clubs throughout Knoxville and Nashville.

Since relocating to Cincinnati, Greg has become a familiar presence on stages across the Tri-State area, performing in venues ranging from major festivals to intimate local clubs. Throughout his career, he has showcased his versatility with groups including the Everyday People Band, Amy & The Arrangement, The Trouble with Tina Band, The Big Trouble Blues Band, and the Last Caballeros.

Greg’s signature lead guitar style is deeply rooted in the influence of the legendary “Three Kings” of blues guitar — B.B. King, Albert King, and Freddie King — whose impact can be heard in every performance.
